Horrified, the Sun-Times looks south. No, keep going. Further.

The S-T continues its campaign against Rio's Olympic bid.

"For Rio -- beset by crime and poverty -- the stakes are high. ... This year, in unrest that attracted international attention, Rio police battled armed drug gangs in shanty-towns called favelas."

You know, because in Daley's city-upon-a-hill such awful things don't happen with numbing regularity.

Perhaps sensing that the Sun-Times' sort of critique could cut both ways, the big guy diplomatically adds, "Every city has its problems...You don't have to go and trash people to get the message over."

Especially when your hometown media will do it for you.
